Finance Committee

The Finance Committee meets monthly at 5:00 p.m. prior to the regular board meeting with the Director of Finance to audit monthly accruals and claims, and discuss budget/finance matters.
IASB Delegate Assembly

Iowa Association of School Boards bylaws give each member school board a delegate who casts the district’s votes on issues before Delegate Assembly. During the annual IASB convention, the Delegate Assembly convenes to conduct the annual meeting, set the legislative platform and select candidates for the IASB Board of Directors.
Mason City Conference Board

The Mason City Conference Board meets annually to hold a public hearing on the Assessor’s FY budget as well as any budget amendments.
School Improvement Advisory Committee
All Board Directors
The SIAC committee will meet four times during the school year to review district achievement data, discuss school improvement initiatives and provide input to the Mason City Community School District’s Board of Education.
Superintendent’s Evaluation (Vice President)

The Superintendent shall be formally evaluated by the Board at minimum on a yearly basis. Vice President facilitates the evaluation process and procedures.
Superintendent’s Contract (Board President)

It is the responsibility of the Mason City Community School District Board of Education to provide the contract for the position of Superintendent, including the length of the contract for employment between the superintendent and the board. The contract will state the terms of employment.
Education Foundation

Meeting times: Quarterly/TBD by Education Foundation President/Tuesdays or Wednesdays/5:15 p.m. at Central Park Dentistry. Meetings usually last about 1.5 hours.
Agenda Items: Financial Update, Scholarships, Class Reunions, Activity Updates
Board members and Development Director meet and discuss agenda items. Sometimes committees are formed for specific tasks and some items require a vote from the directors only.
MCSD Board member acts as liaison between the school district and the Foundation and provides updates to the Foundation Board.
Emergency Planning Committee

The Emergency Planning Committee includes representatives from Board, district staff and community agencies, will meet to identify strengths/needs and update procedures to enhance the Mason City Community School District’s preparedness for emergencies, threats and hazards.
CTE (Career Technical Education) Advisory Committee
Madison Nelson
This advisory committee meets once a year to review programs of study for the high school CTE courses. The committee provides input on local job availability, relevant skills needed, and partnership opportunities for students and local businesses. The committee meeting typically is held in May.
Facilities Committee

This advisory committee meets at a minimum on a yearly basis to provide input to the Board and administration about facility needs and priorities. Board members on this committee meet as needed to monitor the progress of facility construction and renovation projects.
District Wellness Committee
Jennifer Dorsey-Lee, Madison Nelson
The Wellness Committee meets two times per year to assess the district’s existing nutrition, physical activity procedures and activities to promote student and staff wellness.
ISL/PPEL Oversight Committee
Alan Steckman
The committee receives information about the spending of the funds generated by the voter-approved instructional support program levy (ISL) and physical plant and equipment levy (PPEL), and makes recommendations to the Board about future funding priorities and communication to the community.
