Bus Safety
Departments
On the bus
- Stay seated: Remain in your seat and face forward for the entire trip.
- Keep aisles clear: Do not leave bags or feet in the aisle, and go directly to a seat when you board.
- Use handrails: Use handrails when standing or walking, especially on stairs.
- Listen to the driver: Respect and obey the driver’s instructions and avoid distractions.
- Stay inside: Keep hands, arms, and head inside the bus.
- Handle emergencies: In an emergency, remain calm and follow the driver’s instructions.
- Be respectful: Speak quietly and avoid yelling or throwing things on the bus or out the windows.
Boarding and disembarking
- Be patient: Wait for the bus to stop completely before getting on or off.
- Use handrails: Use the handrail when going up and down the steps.
- Be alert: Be aware of your surroundings and traffic when getting on or off.
- Cross safely: Never walk behind the bus. If you need to cross the street, make eye contact with the driver and be at least five giant steps in front of the bus before crossing.
- Ask for help: If you drop something near the bus, ask the driver for help instead of trying to retrieve it yourself.
