Health Policies

The Health Services Department is committed to supporting the health and well-being of every student, ensuring they are ready to learn and succeed.  Each school has a health office staffed daily who provides care for illnesses, injuries, and emergencies, as well as guidance for managing chronic health conditions.  Our goal is to promote healthy habits, prevent illness, and create a safe, nurturing environment where students can thrive physically, emotionally, and socially.

Emergency Contacts

The district requires that the school has an emergency contact number on file in case your child becomes ill or injured.

  • Emergency information forms are available at registration or any time in Infinite Campus.
  • Please ensure that the person you list (neighbor, friend, or relative) is aware they are your child’s emergency contact.
  • Notify the school immediately if your emergency contact information changes during the school year.

Illnesses at School

Students may be sent home if they exhibit any of the following symptoms:

  • Temperature of 100°F or above.
  • Vomiting or diarrhea.
  • Unexplained abdominal pain.
  • Severe cold or cough.
  • Unexplained skin eruptions or rash.
  • Swelling, redness, tenderness, or discharge of the eyes.
  • A communicable disease.
  • Any health condition the nurse judges to be a concern for the child’s or others’ health.

Readmission & Activities

  • Medical Absence: For readmission after a medical absence of five consecutive school days or three consecutive days (middle and high school), you must provide written verification from a physician, including any restrictions.
  • School Activities: To participate in school-sponsored activities, students must attend school for a half-day on the day of the activity, unless the principal has given permission for the absence.

Medication

School personnel cannot administer any medication (prescription or over-the-counter) unless a completed Medication Administration Request Form is on file. This form is available at registration and in the school health office throughout the school year.
