Accessibility
Policy Commitment
The Mason City Community School District (MCCSD) is dedicated to ensuring equal access to its digital content for all individuals, including those with disabilities. This commitment is articulated in compliance with applicable federal statutes, specifically Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). MCCSD proactively strives to ensure all content published on its official websites is accessible to and usable by individuals employing assistive technologies.
Technical Standards and Conformance
MCCSD mandates that its websites adhere to the accessibility standards established by Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 Level AA as the minimum technical specifications for design, development, and maintenance. MCCSD acknowledges an exception for video content, which conforms to WCAG 2.0 Level A. The District is committed to consistently exceeding these baseline conformance levels where technologically and practically feasible.
Documentation and Third-Party Disclaimers
Documentation Compliance: MCCSD recognizes that certain legacy Portable Document Format (PDF) files currently hosted on its web properties may not fully meet all current accessibility requirements. The District is actively engaged in remediation to update these documents. In the event a user experiences difficulty accessing a document, the MCCSD Communications Department must be contacted promptly to receive the requisite information in an appropriate alternative format.
Third-Party Integration Limitation: MCCSD utilizes integrated third-party platforms, including but not limited to YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, and Google Translate, to optimize communication and provide language access. These services are provided and controlled by their respective companies. MCCSD expressly disclaims responsibility for the accessibility conformance or standards adherence of content or services provided by these external third-party entities.
Reporting and Remediation Procedures
Users of assistive technology who encounter an accessibility barrier or difficulties accessing any MCCSD website or its content are required to contact the MCCSD Communications Department at 641-421-4401. Upon receiving notification, MCCSD shall dedicate every reasonable effort to promptly resolve the reported access issue and/or provide the requested information to the user in an appropriate alternative format until such time as the digital issue can be permanently remediated.
